HatiYoga

mmmm...

Stand really upright.

Now lift one leg and rest sole of foot as high as possible…..and resist that falling down feeling.

Clasp both hands with fingers all perfectly upright and close your eyes and...

Relax.

Meditate...

Think happy thoughts...

Breathe in and out slowly.

Relax...

mmmm...

Aaahhh...Welcome to the world of Yoga...

As she puts it 'The Day My Baby Was Born' is the day she could hold and smell and snuggle up to the brand new first ever local yoga magazine, HatiYoga.

'Hati' is a malay word for heart, the organ that symbolises love and affection. So I take it she meant 'LoveYoga' (HatiYoga), perhaps?

HatiYoga is a dream come true for Ninie (Nur Hidayah Ahmad) or better known as the Yoga Instructor.

Kudos!

She conceptualised, organised and produced Hati Yoga all in an incredibly short time. 3 weeks, and HatiYoga was done.

Yes, her 'baby' is here now ready to be launched, on Saturday, 24th February!

Yes, I am privy to an early copy of her 'baby' last saturday. Beautiful indeed.

Ninie is so inspiring.

I could sniff her enthusiasm for everything yoga.

It is so strong that it drowned even the yummy aroma of our favourite 'Nando's' we were having with Asma Ahmad Faizal (yoga enthusiast and an up-coming emcee..he he) and Juliana Ibrahim ('Gubra' Fame and yoga enthusiast too) at Bangsar Village (two other absolutely beautiful, go-for-it young girls).

To think that Ninie took up IT at University and yet, she decided to pursue her love for yoga. This love has certainly paid off. I could only see joy and I could see how her eyes lit up everytime we break into yoga subject.

Yoga is a combination of effective breathing exercises complimented with physical postures and some form of light meditation. It can only but work I must say.

She said yoga gives you that refreshed and rejuvenated feel. It gives you the flexibility and strength in time. It gives you courage to face your fears through the discipline.

Ninie told me she was plagued with asthma before. With yoga, asthma does not trouble her anymore. Wow! This simply has got to do with the mind-body-spirit effect.

There are other testimonials that yoga improves insomnia, bowel movements and a long list of other ailments.

Yoga is all positive.

It is both physiological and spiritual mastery.

It is her quest through HatiYoga to break the misconceptions most have towards yoga. Through HatiYoga she hopes to subtly and gently nudge more of us Malaysians to love and practice yoga happily to achieve healthy body and mind and spirit.

I do consider myself a health enthusiast. Ehem!

Guide's honour, I have been exercising quite regularly.

But recently with some woman related medication, the side effect involves putting on some un-invited kilos of you know what! I am running more KMs on the treadmill and I think I am winning. The jeans fit better..he he.

But having met and having sniffed Ninie's enthusiasm for yoga, I have a creepy feeling I might end up not only being well toned and fit, yes, I might end up being able to do the 'split' by year end! *hearty laughter*

I guess, looking at this petite and beautiful, yoga instructor and her HatiYoga, surely one of the surest ways of getting fulfillment in life is to pursue our dreams relentlessly, no matter how far, no matter how high, no matter how impossible.

Just go for that rainbow!

One never knows, there's that pot of gold waiting for you.

Ninie you do us proud.

You light up the fire in many, with your enthusiasm.

Note:

Btw, catch Ninie on Nescafe Kickstart on Saturday 24th, 7 to 8pm at TV3. She's one of the 8 semi-finalist from 42,000 applicants. If you wish, you can vote for your favourite finalist via sms! She could be Ninie!

this is no joke ... i invented my own kinda yoga when i was 10 years old based on cat movements and breathing techniques.

i'm still practicing it for many reasons:

1. to conquer fear
2. to block greed
3. to stay focus
4. to think more rather to talk more
5. to execute things according to plan (or to not hesitate)
6. to have faith in my plan
7. for some health reasons
8. to reflect well
9. other reasons

my late grandmother called it 'senaman kucing' but my kinda yoga is not just about exercise, it's exercise + meditation (based on how cats take naps) + medication (consuming some plants and vegetables consumed by cats).

again ... this is no joke.

Hi Azer,

Wooooo..since age 10? Which planet did you come from?? Definitely you're not from here..he he! Of course I believe you!

You really made me all excited and curious. You made me most frustrated too, as I have to curb my huge desire to know more of your craft but I can't be presumtuous and ask you, can I now? So I'll have to contend myself on just knowing the amount you have shared here. Sigh!

Interesting indeed your cat yoga.

Hi d,

Yes I agree that yoga is gaining in popularity. Yoga has been synonymous with affluence. Not now. More and more people are aware of the benefits of doing yoga. It is great now there's a local magazine that can help remove myths surrounding yoga. This sharing, will get everyone to enjoy and benefit from yoga.

ruby ahmad said...

Hi Nour,

By all means. Get into yoga then. I have linked Ninies blog in my entry. You can visit her blog and consider being Ninie's student perhaps?

Just in case you are really busy, well, Ninie did tell me you can get a VCD first. Look out for the HatiYoga in March. There will be outlets where you can get the mags plus a VCD I think. I will update this blog once I get details on HatiYoga, just for you Nour..he he.

Thanks, Ruby for this wonderful call to yoga! I've practice Iyengar yoga for almost 10 years and have taught part-time for 4 years. Yoga offers many blessings- for the body, mind and spirit. Yoga opens doors and closes others. I'm a firm believer in the many benefits of a regular practice. And remember, there are 8 limbs to yoga and asana (postures) is only one limb! I wish you well and much flexibility!

Hi Getzapped,

Thanks for the sweet vote.

Whoa! You've been at it for 10 years! Amazing. You teach part time too..I am bowled over. Love to know this of you.

I know how effective yoga is. It does not only make you well toned and fit, it sharpens our focus too. Yes, yoga has many benefits.

Thank you for your warm words. Cheers.

Hi Simah,

Yes all three girls including Ninie are very very young indeed. They are in their early 20s and I definitely feel young and motivated in their midst. I feel lucky I could jive with them. A lot to learn from the young.

Ninie is very happy with her chosen path. She has listened to her heart carefully and she has great belief in herself. Something we should emulate.

Yes, she is one happy and fulfilled young girl. Inspiring.

Hi Idham,

Individuals like Ninie, Juliana and Asma are inspiring. They are go-for-it girls and they are efficient and prompt in their work. I have seen them in action. I adore them. They may be young, but they are balanced and matured in their thoughts.

Have a good trip to Turkey and UK.

Hi Loveujordan,

You have been reading me? Awwww...wonderful now that you have made effort to drop by. Thank you so much for your warm and kind words. Lovely.

As in everything it is just a question of making a start. We can only get better and better. Trust me.

Thank you my dear and do drop by always.

ruby ahmad said...

Hi Susan,

I do enjoy your writing. You are creative and you write as how you honestly feel. I'd like to do that, but since I don't, I read you.

I can stand like that for a loooong time...ha ha...jesting. We simply get better with time, the instructor said. Cheers.

Ruby,

1st, thanks for your kind words in Kak Teh's. Your empathy was very touching. But you are too young to be my fairy godmother. :) I think you make a good guardian angel.

Pls dun think I was ungrateful to my ex. We didn't share the same worldview in a lot of things.

Yes. yoga is very liberating from fear, blues and hangups. I learnt from a book.

Kak Ruby dear,

wow...so inspiring! I had been in Ninie's blog and aware of this Hatiyoga release. Will definately get this book. So proud of Ninie! Now I don't have to buy UK's magazine.

Yes yes definately Yoga , pilate is so very good for mind, body and spirit. I had been praticing it back in UK with my wonderful and lovely Yoga instructor. It keep me healthy in many ways.

Thanks for sharing this Kak Ruby. You are one of souls who always there for others...

ruby ahmad said...

Awwww...sure thing Hi&Lo. Heartbreaks are ouch so painful. It is important to decide and get on if you already reaslised the two of you don't jive. As they say, it always takes two to tango..but still, sob sob.

I do do exercises as in running on the treadmill and some weight training. I have not gotten into yoga as yet. But am starting with Ninie's CD first.

To be honest one does what interests one and simply keeps at it.

Hi&Lo, you should start a blog. We wanna know you better lah..he he.

ruby ahmad said...

Hi Anggerek merah,

Lama tak dengar..rindu pulak.

Yes, I am myself inspired with Ninie. She's done well. She'll be happy to hear what you said. Oh you do yoga, exciting stuff. Yes, Pilates is effective too. We just get into what interests us as I said to Hi&Lo.

Oh, you know me AM, I love sharing. That way we grow too. When we don't share we get left behind. Nobody wants to remember us. That simple kan.

Bila balik, jom kopi2, buat bising kat KLCC again. Gossip2 and jamu2 mata..ha ha. Take care dear.

Ruby; Di antara Yoga, Pilates dan Qigong, I tend to prefer Pilates and Qigong. Kalau Yoga combined dengan Pilates; orang panggil Yogates; he he he then Pilates combined with Qigong should be Pigong or Pilagong! ha ha ha. Whatever, as long as it works.

Tapi problem juga, all the stretching and standing take so much time.

I'm currently following BodyJam and BodyStep classes. Planning to start some Yoga in June 2007.
Yes, your entry is so inspiring... as always... thank you.

ruby ahmad said...

Hi d.n.a.s.,

Bodyjam and bodysteps..cool. Keep it up. Yeah! Me too, nak take up Yoga same time.

Heyyy...thanks for your sweet and kind words. Makes sharing all the more fun with generous people like you. Cheers.

ruby ahmad said...

Dear HAS,

I have found out it does not matter what activity you do for as long as you like the activity and you move. That activity will no doubt bring a lot of good.

I have a book on Yogilates. Hmm..belum khatam lagi that book. Pilagong, no..ha ha. I love weights and treadmill most of all. Take care and keep on your good work dear.

yogo is a fantastic form of excercise for better health. i have been doing yoga for the past one and half years and i have never felt better. those with cronic aches and pains should give yoga a try. like some girls, i have cronic back ache and every so often i'd pull a muscle while stretching to get something etc. after practicing yoga, the back pain has lessened and i have not pulled a muscle since. of course one must be disciplined and go for yoga classes regularly at least 2 to 3 times a week to see results.

ruby ahmad said...

Hi Anonymous 22.19,

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience with yoga with us here. I agree with you, with any form of exercise, the body gets well toned and the incidence such as pulled muscle is almost nil.

There's the other side effect, we will begin to look younger than our age. *smile*
